More Than Just Driving Instructor

BDE qualifies a candidate to go for road test in 8 months from the day G1 class has been received. Also, it helps in qualifying for insurance discount. Above all, BDE course provides the knowledge and skills required to operate a vehicle. It helps in acquiring defensive driving techniques and safe habits.

Step 1:

The first step towards acquiring a G1 license is to do Beginner Driver Education program in Ontario. The booklet cane be purchased for its study at most of the major retailers such as Canadian Tire, Walmart, or most convenience stores across Ontario. It is also available online at https://www.ontario.ca/document/official-mto-drivers-handbook

Step 2:

After thorough study and understanding of basic road signs and rules of Ontarios find a drive test center nearest to you. You can also visit www.drivetest.ca or call the Driver’s Test Center hotline at 416-325-8580 to find out the nearest location and time.

Step 3:

Once the written G1 knowledge test is booked you are asked to present three pieces of Canadian ID such as social insurance, health card, temporary visitors permit, passport, bank statements, student visa, or any other official government identification. The fee to book the G1 license test is $158.25 (subject to change, visit: https://drivetest.ca/tests/ fees.html for current pricing), plus an additional $40 fee to book and take the G2 Road Test for a total of $125 (subject to change, visit: https://drivetest.ca/tests/fees.html for the current pricing).

Step 4:

After presenting your ID and paying the fees, you vision will be evaluated by performing your eye test. If you wear prescription eyeglasses or corrective eye lenses, do not forget to bring them to the test. If you pass the eye test, you will be proceeded to 5th and the final step of the test.

Step 5:

You can write a knowledge test in English or French or in your mother tongue, by answering multiple-choice questions on the signs and rules of the road in Ontario. A G1 license will be issued to you for 5 years once you successfully pass that written knowledge test. That G1 license is required as identification to enroll in Driving School Programs and booking any road tests with the Drive Test Center offices. Note: If you have more than 2 years of experience from another province or country (letter of consulate is needed verifying your license status from the country of origin), you can get a credit of an experienced driver status by presenting a valid driver’s license. Under such circumstances, you can take the G2 Road Test immediately, without waiting for the minimum required time of one year from the time of getting your G1 license. Or, you can go directly take the G Road Test without waiting to get tested for G2. However, you only have one chance to pass the G Road Test. If you fail, you must go back to reacquire the G2 license, and then proceed again to attempt to pass the G Road Test.
